Well as you will see from the images, the Whisper 100 did not do very well over the winter. It seems that the three allan bolts that hold the mag can in place, broke. Then without being able to bring the head unit down till today it just wobbled till the magnets cracked and chipped away. Not too sure about the rust though. I thought that these were able to stick it out in the weather a little better.
I sent these off to Southwest today to see what they are going to do. I have no issues with trying to make some repairs, but with the condition of the magnets, I would guess a new can is on order.
Anyone have any great ideas on how to clean this mess up?
I think i would try some eletrical cleaner first. I agree that a new set of magnets are needed. keep us posted on what Southwest wind says Wind Turbines are a lot funner to watch than solar panels
I have started to clean things up a little, but it also looks like the bearing/slip ring might be shot as well. I did inform Southwest of this a couple of months ago, but they never thought it was an issue. I cleaned out the magnet can today, and 5 out of the 10 magnets are shot for sure. I did hear back from Southwest, but for some reason they are 5 days behind on email. Either they have alot of problems, or not enough people. Just happy I put a stop payment on the Skystream I ordered. I will wait to see how this plays out before dropping close to $17,000 for the complete unit and tower now. If they have such a problem with an open issue I would hate to see what would happen if a Skystream went down.
